STILFOLD secures US patent protection for its groundbreaking origami-based design and manufacturing technology

STILFOLD, a Swedish innovator in sustainable manufacturing technology, is proud to announce that their basic patent has been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This milestone is a major advance for the company's origami-based manufacturing method, which radically improves material efficiency and reduces the environmental impact of industrial production.

The newly granted patent, covering STILFOLD's proprietary curve folding technology, enables the creation of complex geometric structures from flat sheet metal with outstanding precision and strength. This method minimizes material use by integrating parts, which reduces production costs and lowers the carbon footprint of manufacturing processes. This makes the technology groundbreaking for several industries such as automotive, aviation, renewable energy, construction and consumer products.

"We are delighted to have this patent recognized in the US", says Jonas Nyvang, CEO and co-founder of STILFOLD. “Our technology is not just about creating stronger and lighter products; it's about redefining how we approach manufacturing in a way that benefits both business and the planet. This patent protects our method and recipe as we continue to expand into the US market”.

With the US patent secured, STILFOLD is poised to accelerate its strategic partnerships with Georgia Tech including partnerships with key players in the automotive, manufacturing and aerospace sectors. The company's unique method offers a compelling alternative to traditional manufacturing methods, reducing the need for expensive tooling and enabling more flexible and efficient production systems.

"Getting this patent is a testament to our team's hard work and dedication," added Tue Beijer, co-founder and CTO . “It confirms our commitment to leading a new era of manufacturing where innovative design meets sustainable practice. We look forward to using this technology to support our customers in achieving their sustainability and production goals.”

STILFOLD already holds a Swedish patent and three EU patents covering 20 countries for its method, software and machine. To maximize growth and licensing potential, STILFOLD is now expanding its patent portfolio to important global markets such as the USA and Asia.
